Lizzie update :(
Been a very stressful week (hence not being around much). Lizzie's foot stopped healing and started opening up again, she went off her food and looked generally unwell. I took her back to the vets and they have had to do a biopsy on her toe as they found a lump (after Jodie's lump my brain has gone into overdrive) The vets has also perfomed a second operation on her foot to take out the dead skin and try to stitch together the remaining healthy tissue. Worst case now if this does not work and the results show up something nasty she will have to have a general anasthetic to have her toe removed, with her having CVD this is risky. The good news is she has been going for a walk with our neighbours puppy and is thoroughly enjoying having a youngster around, this upped our search for another lurcher puppy, and a litter was being born today, I am second in line for a little girl (just hope she has girls!!!)
To blast our money situation, our youngest turned 5 and he decided he no longer would wear nappies at night (woohoo), 5 dry nights and I was over the moon, then suddenly he wet the bed twice in one night, not a problem till I went to wash the bedding and the washing machine went bang big time, so on top of Lizzie's vet bill we had to fork out for a new washing machine, which wont be here till monday. Did the little ones bedding by hand, but the clothes will have to wait, so if you smell something its me lol lol (If I dont laught I will cry)

Re: Lizzie update :(
So annoyed!!!
Hubby picked Liz up yesterday afternoon, she was falling all over the place and couldnt stand. Hubby just wanted to get her in the car, but the receptionist was insisting she talk to hubby about dental care, it was then she mentioned that while Lizzie was having her toe amputated they removed some of her teeth, without telling us!!!! Liz only had her teeth cleaned 4 weeks ago, and nothing was mentioned about a bad tooth. This additional work sent the bill over what little money we had left (last weeks vet bill £250 and we had to get a new washing machine).
I am outraged at the fact they did work without my concent and this additional work had a nearly 14 year old dog under anasthetic longer than was actually needed for the operation she went in for.
As soon as Lizzie is better and can walk again (god I hope she does walk again) we are going to fight this, it is not right doing work that was not authorised !

Re: Lizzie update :(
What is it with vets these days?
There has to be away to contest what they've done, it's totally out of order.

Re: Lizzie update :(
Makes you want to draw a written contract on services, just like a car repair bill.. don't do what I don't specifically request you to do.
Re: Lizzie update :(
Well we have been on to trading standards, see if they can help and also the royal vet collage (who governs vets practices) see what comes of it.
On a brighter note, Lizzie seems brighter this morning and yesterday she ate really well, 2 chicken breasts, half Kes's breakfast which Kes allowed her to do and lots of dog treats.

That's fantastic news Glad she's feeling much better already ^^
I hope trading standards and royal vet college manage to find something of worth that would help

Re: Lizzie update :(
Well it will be a case of wait and see, but we are not going to let it drop. Lizzie is too old to be constantly messed about with and she get so upset going to the vets, with having CVD extra stress could bring on another attack which could kill her!!
Bad news is I may be offline for a while, all this has left us financially ruined, we are making as many cut backs as possible, I have already said I will sell some of my fish and tanks, and we are going to have to cancel cable as that is £50/month

Re: Lizzie update :(
ARGH!!!!! my old vets contacted my new vets putting the wind up them, I had a letter this morning saying to call the surgery urgently. Which I did, my old vets stated to the new vet that Lizzies dressings would not be changed until I go to the new vets on Thursday and my new vet was concerned. I told them I had already changed the dressings yesterday!!! They were quite happy with that!

Heard back from trading standards, it is not something they will deal with but they have spoken to the Royal Collage of Vet Sergeons (i know that isnt spelt right but brain not working lol) who are interesting in looking into this further. I have to fill out their complaints form and they will take it from there.
Here is hoping I get some justice for Liz

I hope they can do something, it's truly beyond whats happening here.
Hells, i'd be getting your old vet slammed for slanderous remarks.

Re: Lizzie update :(
Well the complaint will go right back to November when Lizzie had her fit and the duty vet refused to come out and told us to leave her in the dark and take her to the surgery in the morning, everything we have read up on CVD states under no circumstances to leave the dog in the dark!!!

Its a shame I cannot remember the dates, it was all on the other forum. I know it was just after bonfire night she had the fit or it might have been bonfire night. I have been asleep since then

Re: Lizzie update :(
After a sleepless night, Liz went to the new vet this morning, I was dreading what else had been hidden.
Basically there is nothing wrong with Liz, her foot is fine and healing fantastic, all her blood tests were ok, just one discrepensy, which after discussing with the vet the stress Liz has been under and her weight loss (which she is now gaining again) this accounted for the discrepancy in her blood results. Her teeth are fine!!!!!!!! very good for a dog of her age!!!!! they just need some additional cleaning as she has not been eating biscuits for the last few months (I have been soaking her food in gravey so she will eat) so all I have to do is clean her teeth myself weekly or get her back on dried foods.
