Golden Weather Loach Empty Golden Weather Loach

Sure wish Star was around, but maybe someone here can answer this for me. I have 2 Golden Weather Loaches. A while back, each one had a dark brown spot appear. One has it on his head, looks like a bandit mask, and the other one has a brown spot on his back, just behind his head. Never really worried me. I cleaned the tank out yesterday, and the loach with the brown mask, now has speckled brown spots all over his body. Looks like someone sprinkled him with ground cinnamon. No other behavior changes to note. No itching, activities are normal, that I can see.
My question is, could this just be like "age spots"? Or pigment changes taking place?

It sounds to me like these are just normal colour changes. Like you say, patches of pigments appearing on their bodies.

Just keep an eye on it. If they develop into something else then it may be something worse but I highly doubt it.

Perhaps a pic would help?

Do you know roughly how old they are? Could be a maturity thing? Or maybe different patterns for different moods (like cichlids, have no clue if weather loaches can do it?)

Had a quick look on google and couldn't find anything, will keep looking.

I purchased them both in August of last year. They were roughly 2 inches at purchase. They are both now about 8 inches in length. The one that is masked, and speckled throughout, is very much "heftier" in build than the other one. He is very wide across the back compared to the other one with just the one small brown patch behind the head area. As far as actual age goes, I don't know how old they are when sold in fish stores, but I have owned them for a year.

Sounds like it could be a female then? I think they tend to be much more plumper?
