I hate oscars!!!!!!!

I have been bitten by one of the babies again, and cleaning chops's tank today was a ruddy nightmare, twice he tried to bite me, I tried shooing him away with the gravel vac, but he flicked right over the top of it and head butted my arm, then because I wouldnt move my hand he shot to the surface and tail flicked so I got soaked

lol. the small ones sound like a nightmare.

I remember Chops & Rusty being greedy, and Chops on more than one occasion jumping for food, but never attacking me when I put my hands in the tank. Now they are bigger they do it just to make me jump, they have never actually bitten me and drawn blood, just threatened or headbutted me, but the one little one is a right nasty bugger. Saying that all I do is go out and feed them and wc daily still I dont actually interact with them the way I do my others as I really am trying hard not to get attached to them.

Children will be children...

I got bitten by my BA once, made me jump so much! It hurt but nothing compared to an Oscar bite I'm sure - although I wouldn't like to experience one to find out...

They do sound like real characters though! I would like to have an Oscar one day

Got two here looking for a home lol Dispite my moaning oscars are wonderful fish.

I would love nothing more than to be able to have them, but I don't have the room for a large enough tank. I sit here on a daily basis trying to work out where I could squeeze a 5 or 6 footer but haven't managed yet!

There is probably room upstairs but as the spare room shakes when you shut the back door it's probably not advisable to have a large tank there...

I will have to come and visit I bet I could find room lol

OK Meatball drew blood big time this morning (the kids have named the 2 rescue's meatball & noodle!!!), little bugger came at my arm, not just swim up and nip, noooo he turned sideways mouth open as far as he could and sank his little nashers right in. Soon as he tasted blood he let go turned a circle and went for a second go. I wouldnt mind but the boys had just fed them.!! It seems that meatball is very protective over noodle, who seems quite shy still.

I don't think I could handle that.. you can't rehome a viscious fish, can you? Maybe if you wore a shark diver's outfit next time you cleaned the tank.. lol...

I am going to try and work with him over the next few days see if I can get him to stop else no one will want him, well only the type of fishkeeper I wouldnt let him go to anyway would (nuff said). I started this afternoon, each time he tried to bite my hand I grabbed his tail with the other, he got mad, really mad but stopped going for my hand and he was rewarded with a food stick. Oscars are trainable, so I will see how this works, if not I will teach him "back and stay" like Rusty does. Chops just goes up yours and still attacks but thats Chops lol

I think I will stay with dog training... I would likely have Oscar Soup by the end of the day. Lol... Just Kidding.

Some of my fish are better trained than my barmy GSD.

Jethro & gibbs the large plecs will move when asked so I can gravel vac. Jethro used to come when he was called and twirl round my finger, but I tend not to get him to do it any more.

Bailey (diadema) Eric & Bill (urau) & Bogie (choccy) will come then they are called.

Harry the red spot will come to my hand to be stroked

Rainbow (JD) and Tich (texas) both know when I stand at the tank and wag my finger they best pack in glaring and mouthing at each other lol.

Rusty (oscar) knows the commands back and stay, and if I touch my lips with my finger while next to his tank, he will come over and press his lips on the glass for a goodnight kiss, but I wont try it while leaning over the top as I have been "kissed" by chops like that lol lol

I know I am mad, but I also know fish are smarter than people give them credit for.

My newest Betta won't eat, unless I move the Betta Nuggets to her with my finger... I know she knows where the food is, but seems to insist upon being hand fed.

How are they behaving themselves now? Have they learnt any manners yet?

er no lol Meatball is worse, now I lift the lid as fast as possible and throw the food in before he launches at me, its such a repeat of Chops its scary, noodle on the other hand is very sweet

im supprised no one has had them off ya yet,or is it that you dont want them to go.lol.

I have had one person say they want them, for their 3ft tank (told politely to bugger off) and one chap wanting to put them with his other oscars, if I would deliver them to Luton *rolls eyes* and another e-mail saying they would take them if they were white??????. Looking at their anal fin I am starting to think they are male and female, hence all the aggression from what I think is the male. Its a darn shame the female is really really beautifully marked, but absolutely no one wants them

Somebody, somewhere will take them... meanwhile, wear steel woven gloves when you clean the tank...

iv just started up a preditor tank in a 180 till they are big enough to go in the 5ft. dont think id trust meatball with the gar or arowana though.lol.

I havnt tried them with other fish, I am trying to sell my koi so I can use that tank to split some of my other fish up a bit, IF the koi go soon I will try them with other fish see what they are like. Double if the koi go, had blooming timewasters

Meatball has finally improved his bolshy behaviour, I cleaned out the tank today, thorough gravel vac and glass clean and didnt get bitten once

great, do ya think they would be ok with a 5" dat an a 7"bass in that big tank i have in the shed?
