DIY Betta Boxes
Hi All,
I made this the other day to separate the growing number of male Betta Fry I am growing up.
These betta cages were made from cross stitch mesh. I got mine from Hobby Craft. Each part is held together by zip-ties.
When cutting the mesh I made sure I left a large over hang which will late act as a locking mechanism when putting pieces together.
Once I'd cut all the pieces out all that was left was to try and assemble them. One bottom, two sides, two ends and 5 dividers. It's not that easy to begin with but once you get the hang of it it's easy.
The finished product suspended in the tank. It doesn't float so one end is held to the tank side by a divider clip and the other end now rests on a plant pot to ensure it doesn't stick.
I was left with some pieces of mesh that were the exact width as the cage and so I am currently using them to divide each section into two. This gives me a lot more individual cages to fit more fry in. The great thing about this type of betta box is that it is in the main tank and so each betta doesn't require individual cleaning out, you just clean the main tank.
Hope you found this useful,
Sam

Re: DIY Betta Boxes
It occurred to me tonight that this design could very easily be modified to act as breeder boxes for livebearers. The fry would fit perfectly through this size mesh and the flow in and out would be much better than "traditional" plastic boxes you can buy.
