In the nursery tank, I placed a nylon stocking over the intake tube of my filter to keep the newborns safe from disaster. It also reduced the water current of the tank, which I found to be sufficient for the little ones. The nylon stocking seemed to plug with small particals often, and reduced the water flow to a near trickle. I wanted to increase the water flow to full throttle, to give the little ones some current to develop strong swimming muscles, but I didn't want to leave the suction tube open for disaster. I researched on the web, and found out that fiberglass window screen is fish safe. I covered the suction tube with the screen material, which is too small mesh for the fish to be sucked through, yet large enough for the fine particals to be filtered through. Babies will be 2 weeks old this week end, and I am still a doting granny.

That is a good idea, when I have fry I put a bit of filter sponge over the inlet pipe, it catches debris and is safe for the little ones, just take it out and give it a rinse when its full Smile
