Re: Plant food - What do you use
I used to use TNC Complete- it was great. But because I didn't have plants for a while, I stopped using it and I think it's kind of expired now. It makes the fish flick like mad when ever I've added it in the past couple of weeks, so I've stopped using just in case it has gone out of date. It's cheap stuff but you do get good growth from using it, so I do recommend it. Just don't let it go to waste like I have >.<
I guess it also depends on what your budget is? If you can afford it, The Green Machine stocks a ridiculous amount of different fertalisers.

Thank you flute
I shall have a look at the green machine.
To be honest i don't mind the price at the moment just looking for something that works.
Have kept plants in the past but i never seemed to have much joy out of about 80% of the plants.
A bit wiser to looking after the water qualities now which may help a bit.
are such things like c02 diffusers needed or are these just for those who have a bit more experience.
going to go for the natural look what ever way i decide, for the minute i have 6 fish, 4 large peddles/rocks and 3 un named plants
hoping to add more plants, more rocks more fish and some trusted aquarium wood of some sort

To be honest I don't know a great deal about at which point you need to use cO2. I've always just winged it with low tech plants and added the TNC stuff every one in a while. I've actually been meaning to buy a new bottle of the stuff. You can get plugs too that you push into the substrate to feed the plant roots.
If you don't want to go down the route of faffing around with cO2, stick to plants like anubias, java fern, java moss, crypts, etc. Swords do ok with out cO2 I've found too.
I'm sure you already know, but just in case, with getting un-named plants from aquatics, just make sure they're truley aquatic plans- they sell so many non-aquatic plants it's ridiculous!
Really looking forward to photos!
