Renaming the Forum
So in about a month the domain name www.thefishforum.net expires. I can refresh it but it's been suggested we undergo a name change.
Firstly, it'll create a divide between this forum and the old forum, hopefully helping malicious attackers to lose track of us.
And secondly, as part of what i'm sure will become a running joke for this forum. It keep being brought down, but it always comes back, like a phoenix.
So: Available names i've checked at the moment:
PhoenixFish.net << I prefer this as it's shorter and more easily remembered.

Re: Renaming the Forum
I like phoenixfish.net It's short, simple but effective.
I guess as well if we get back on aqua rank, the forum will come up in searches? And if we can create a catchy logo or icon to go with the phoenix theme as well as the banner, it might pull people in, purely because it's different?

Re: Renaming the Forum
Part of me says change the name to hide from whoever brought us down, the other side says keep the name and show the idiots we will not be brought down.
But I do like phoenixfish.net its catchy

Re: Renaming the Forum
I would be concerned about the searches myself if that name was undertaken. it would be a little harder for the typical google key searches for those looking for a fish forum.
However the name is catchy and is different, so being different may give you an advantage.
If you were to have the chosen domain maybe name the title of the forum
PhoenixFish.net - The fish forum that keeps bouncing back
or something like that so the words fish forum still show up on google searches ?

Re: Renaming the Forum
Or how about we keep it to thefishforum.net, but still have the betta-phoenix banner as an in joke about how we keep coming back?
Re: Renaming the Forum
Daft question, but would whoever hacked the site know that the name is due to be re-newed? Just wondering if it was someone destroying the site just for the name? well they got thefishforum.com. If that was the case then keep the fishforum.net and bugger them, change the banner and instead of the friendly fish forum, the phoenix forum.

Re: Renaming the Forum
Yea it is possible to see when the renewal date is due, however that is wrong if someone done it with the intentions of grabbing the site name.
It could have also been an accident somewhere along the line with another site and had virus had passed on, However i would expect hosters to have picked this up and stopped this.

To be honest I would have thought the host should have picked it up when I first sent Rusty the message something wasnt right at Christmas. I must admit I am not impressed with the hosting site one little bit

Re: Renaming the Forum
I have my web site forum hosted by proboards.com and have never had hackers, spammers, or ill fated visitors. It is navigationally friendly, and has a plug in for a chat room. Domains cost a bit, but is a choice. Attachments of pictures are allowed, or can be hotlinked through URL in BBC Coding. It takes a while to get search engines to point proboards out, you can plug in meta tags, and it helps somewhat. I spent a year getting free search engines to plug in my web site, and I have finally chipped through the ice a bit. You can plug in your own graphics that you have here, or use site provided graphics, which I never liked.. lol..

Re: Renaming the Forum
As Star mentions, Daily (the host for the other site) were never helpful for me, they would take weeks to reply to tickets I posted for assistance, I still haven't heard back about the Iframe queries I sent in around christmas.
And as long as I meta tag the site right, it will come up in search engines. The forum name isn't important, it's all about the meta tagging (fish, forum, help, assistance, aquarium etc) we could be called Bobs used tire lot and still recieve google website hits for fish forums.
