Potential problem with 4x2x2

When moving to the new house annoyingly the central brace bar on our 4ft x2 x2 tank broke away from one of the sides.

The tank has 2 more smaller brace bars on it, but not in the centre.

I had no choice but to use the tank as the fish needed to go somewhere, so I filled the tank half full, and applied silicon as lavishly as I could and re-stuck the brace bar.

But now i'm worried that it won't take the strain if I fill the tank to the top, at half full the tank already bows outwards and i'm not sure if this is normal with a large tank or not (never thought to check before).

Note, there is currently no lid for this tank, meaning there's nothing extra holding the glass in place. I am trying to remedy this.

Advice greatly appreciated.

What brand of tank is it? It's hard to say, I know people who have had the centre brace snap and the tank has split from top to bottom, but they were massive tanks, 7-9 foot tanks, which is hell of a lot more water and pressure, etc.......

Erm, when you put silicone on the bar, did you use any clamps or anything to keep it in place while it set?

I stupidly didn't have a brace bar on my old Rio 180 for a good few weeks and didn't realise until dad pointed out that the glass was curving outwards. God my heart was in my mouth as he pushed it back inwards as he shoved the bar back into place >.<
So, I don't know- it might be ok, but if it still really bows out it's going to stress the glass and could eventually crack?

Is there no way that you can stick the fish in other tanks for a week or so, drain the tank, re-silicone the brace bar (might be worth sticking another one on too just to be safe?) and then fill it back up once it's set?

I'd have to move the Krobia and they'd have to share a much smaller tank for a week (3 foot by about 1.5x1.5)

No I didn't clamp it, I was in a bit of a rush and worried so I just siliconed it back in place.

I think draining it and redoing it is probably the best idea, as it is curving quite a bit.

I think they'll be fine in that tank for a week Rusty I had to have all 4 of mine, plus the keyholes, corys, plec, gourami, etc. in a 110 ltr for 6 months (shit happens) and they were all ok afterwards

I think if you drained it and then siliconed it and clamped it it'll be alright afterwards

Just use normal G-clamps??

Yup! Stick something between the clamps and the glass though just so that they don't damage the glass
