My poor red tailed black shark (Abby) took an accidental battering from Jethro (plec) I am not sure what happeded but something spooked Jethro and he went flying round the tank scattering the other fish, but Abby was between Jethro and the glass and he somehow speared her with his pectoral fin, he then bashed her on the large lump of wood knocking her free. Poor Abby could not swim, she was head up tail down just spinning round. I netted her and saw the damage and called for hubby to hold the net while I set up the hospital tank. I left her in the net in the hospital tank for a while then released her but she just couldnt swim and eventually lay down on the bottom. I went and got my euthanising kit, but something in the look in her eye made me stop. I left her in the tank wanting to sit up all night with her, but hubby shoo'd me off to bed, so I covered the tank with a towel.

Got up this morning and uncovered the tank to find Abby swimming around full of colour (she went pale grey and her tail transparent Sad), she has got stronger over the day and keeps twitching and flaring at me when I go by the tank.

You can see the hole jethro's fin left in her Sad

Really glad to hear she's getting stronger through out the day Very Happy

I had forgotten how sharp plecs fins are! I remember being jabbed by my dads giant pleco when I was little and it bloody hurt!

Oh for sure, Jethro has skimmed past me before and scratched me, he didnt mean to harm Abby I dont think, he is normally a gentle soul.

She is still going this morning, did another wc, the wound is looking good hopefully she will heal ok. I would put her back in the main tank, but worried because that is the tank that had the lymphocyctis in and if its still there and gets in that wound Sad

Ah damn, hadn't thought about that :S Are you going to have to shuffle fish about to find her a place in another tank, or are you just going to risk it and add her back once it heals?
Fantastic news about her improving though Very Happy

Well the wound had all healed, I was going to put her back in the main tank tonight, fed her at 6.30 went to bath the kids, came down to find she had jumped out of the tank and was down the back of the cabinet, I did try and revive her but she was gone.
