Re: Couldnt resist
It is female.. she has the egg tube...
Unfortunately having an egg tube doesn't mean it's 100% female. Males can also have them. It's considered a show fault if a male has it.
It's a lovely fish. Maybe some more pics would help confirm the sex?

Re: Couldnt resist
Let me see if I can get more pics... I actually bought 2. Hoping for a serority.. she did not flare.. but the other one sure did... gills, and all.. I have them separate.. the other one will go to my sister with a brand new tank, and goodies.. I can bet the other one is either male, with egg tube, or a very aggressive female.. I am afraid to buy another one for fear of the same scenerio all over again..
Re: Couldnt resist
Not sure what kind of shots you want from me.. but she sure wasn't happy with the mirror...

Gorgeous colours O_O
No obvious beard, but long fins and flares at the mirror. Sub-dominant male juvi??
Either way, stunning fish, good catch!

Re: Couldnt resist
The reason I think male is predominantly the long fins. This betta is a veiltail and it is unusual (but not unheard of) for a veiltail female to have such long fins.
The aggression towards its reflection also tends to imply male. Females can become aggresive but it's less common.
I think the real key will be how it develops over the next few weeks. If it starts fatten up with eggs it'll be female, if it's fins grow and it stays it's current streamlined shape it'll be a male.
