re-introduction
Hello everyone,
I haven't been around for a while, I got the link for the this site a few weeks ago. Seems like there's been a bit of trouble but good to see the site's still going.
I apologise for my lack of support, I've had a difficult year with various things going on.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Katy. My husband and I live in Berkshire with our 2 rescue dogs, Silly and Ace, our (mostly) SA fish, and the most recent additions our 2 rescue guinea pigs, Thor and Odin.
We have been fishkeeping for about 5 years, at one time we had 4 tanks running, and even ventured into marine for a couple of years. We have just the one tank now.
Well that's me, look forward to chatting with you

Re: re-introduction
Welcome back, you certainly could say there was a bit of trouble lol.
Its been a difficult year for all I believe, so no apologies needed. What rescue dogs do you have?
I ventured into marine once, it wasn't long before I was back onto trops xD

They're both collie crosses. Silly is a staffy x and Ace is a new Zealand huntaway x. They're lovely dogs, quite boisterous but absolute softies. To people anyway - they don't generally get on with other dogs! We got silly at 9 months, she'll be 6 this year and ace was 1 when we got him, he'll be 4 next month.
For me the marine was just too much work, and we didn't have a lot of money so we made a lot of things without really knowing what we were doing, it's definitely a hobby that required lots of £££!

Re: re-introduction
Same reasons we left marine *shrug* I am still tempted to starting another one up eventually, but not until i'm more financially grounded.
Staffy x Collie sounds very interesting, thats not a cross I would have expected, can definately understand that one being boisterous :haha:
You'll have to get some pics up for us at some point.

Re: re-introduction
Wow gorgeous dogs! Collie x Staffie is a VERY nice mix, i'm impressed.
Ace looks like if he could speak, he would be a sarcastic dog.

Re: re-introduction
Thanks, can definitely vouch for the mix as being interesting in personality, she's a very clever dog, and really lives up to her name too.
lol he does, doesn't he! His personality is better represented in this pic:
He's a dopey, happy, dog - all tongue and legs!

Re: re-introduction
Nah, haven't kept dogs since leaving the parents house.
Not allowed to keep pets in our flat (good thing fishtanks don't count as pets), besides, we don't have the space for a dog, it'd be too couped up.
At the parents house we had 3 rescue lurchers and one kept puppy from two of the rescues. All have since gotten old and passed though.
If I move somewhere larger its something i'd consider though, it'd have to be another laid back dog though, a lurcher most likely just because they're so chilled.
Though i'd have to consider dog or ferret.. Because I miss having ferrets too.

Re: re-introduction
Gorgeous dogs! They both have such lovely faces And it's so lovely to hear that they're rescues too
Re: re-introduction
Thanks Flute!
I have to say even though Ace came from a rescue he must have had the easiest life ever - he was born at the rescue and then adopted by a lovely family. However one of their older dogs started to pick on him so they decided it was best to rehome him. He was back at the rescue for less than a week before we took him home! I don't understand how he was picked on though, Silly can get a bit funny sometimes, but he just ignores her and wallops her on the head with his clumsy paws until she plays with him!
I always envied people that grew up with dogs, I have been dog mad for as long as I remember but my parents aren't really animal people... So Silly is my first ever dog, and a great first dog to have too!
Now ferrets, I bet they're an interesting pet! Not sure I'd ever keep one though... I miss having rats, so much intelligence and cute little faces

Re: re-introduction
Beautiful dogs, I have never been without a dog, I learnt to walk holding on the coat of our lassie collie
Ferrets are the coolest pets ever, its like having a rat x dog.

Re: re-introduction
I have had many ferrets over the last 15 years. Last year I put my last 4 to sleep from old age, and cancer. Vowed never to have to do that again.. trained dogs when I was younger. Showed labradors in obedience trials, and trained Hearing Guide Dogs, and gave them to deaf people in need of their services.
