Tail gone
My Betta chewed his tail yesterday.. looks like he got a "bob" hair cut.. don't understand what happened to cause it.. no change in activities from the normal routine.. doesn't appear to be festered.. just SHORT..
Re: Tail gone
I have not kept betta myself but I have heard of some chasing their tails and biting them off, no real reason behind it, some people say stress, others because they catch sight of themselves and think its a rival??

Re: Tail gone
He was flaring at one side of the tank all day yesterday.. he was gorgeous.. I didn't think he would go so far with it.. he had flared ocassionally, but never more than a few minutes.. I sleep during the day, so I didn't see how long he was going at himself..
Re: Tail gone
Sometimes they just become tail bitters. My Seaweed was terrible for it. If he's flaring a lot at something, maybe try changing his tank layout about? They can do it if they're stressed about something, or if they're bored.
If he can see his reflection and is flaring and stressing about that, maybe try and find a way to reduce to reflection?
As long as he leaves it alone it should grow back nicely

Re: Tail gone
Haha, only because my bettas in the past have been buggers for it.
Gods I miss having a betta (here we go again >.<....)

Re: Tail gone
Flute, I have a tank full of juveniles if you finally give in.
My virw on Tail biting is either that the fish is overly aggressive and do flares at anything and everything eventually doing himself damage or it's boredom. Do you ever let him flare at his reflection in a mirror? Only for short periods and always remove the mirror before he is tired. If the tanks big enough you could also get him a female.

Re: Tail gone
He flares often at what I assume his image in the glass.. very pretty when he does... he has left his tail alone for quite a while... not so bobby looking..
